Prototypes of Mobility-enhanced Applications |

We have implemented first
MA-based applications that exploit the SOMA-based mobility middleware, most
of all to verify the effectiveness of our mobility support while "in action".

The first application prototype is an automatic Devirus
service: as soon as a laptop (and the mobile place running
on it) connects to a fixed network, the default place of the hosting domain
interrogates the SOMA directory service and asks for the profile information
about the user responsible for that mobile place (in particular, we are interested
in the timestamp that records the last devirus control performed).
  When the following condition holds:

  current_time - last_devirus_control > admitted_interval_between_controls

the default place of the hosting domain sends a devirus agent that, after an
authorization phase, checks and possibly cleans the file system on the mobile
place. Finally, the discovery service notifies the UVE service
to update the user profile information.

The other prototype of mobility-enabled MA-based application belongs to the
  area of Distributed Information Retrieval.
Apart from its mobility enhancements for accommodating terminal/user mobility
and mobile access to resources/services, the distributed info retrieval service
is described in detail in the pages about the SOMA-based
  applications.
